A two-way active bookshelf speaker with Class-D internal amplification and asynchronous USB-C input, manufactured by Luminoss Audio in Eindhoven.

Overview

The Luminoss R1 is a sealed two-way active bookshelf speaker first shipped in October 2023. The cabinet is 285mm tall, 165mm wide, 220mm deep, and weighs 4.2 kilograms each. The cabinets are sold and shipped as matched pairs only — Luminoss does not sell individual replacement units except as a warranty repair. Available cabinet finishes are matte oak veneer and black satin lacquer.

Drivers and amplification

Each speaker uses a 28mm soft-dome tweeter and a 130mm long-throw aluminum-cone woofer crossed at 2.4 kHz with a fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley filter implemented in DSP. Internal Class-D amplification provides 50 watts RMS to the woofer and 30 watts RMS to the tweeter per cabinet. The amplifier modules enter standby after 18 minutes of idle and wake within 0.4 seconds of signal detection.

Inputs

Inputs comprise: one asynchronous USB-C input (PCM up to 24-bit / 192 kHz, no DSD), one TOSLINK optical (up to 24/96), and one stereo RCA analog. There is no balanced XLR input, no Bluetooth, no Wi-Fi, and no HDMI ARC. Volume can be controlled via a small physical knob on the right cabinet or via the included Luminoss IR remote; there is no app.

Pricing and warranty

The R1 retails for €1,290 per pair direct from Luminoss with shipping included to all EU and UK addresses. Stand-mount accessory legs (300mm, anodized aluminum) are sold separately for €140 per pair. The standard warranty is five years on the cabinet and amplifier modules and two years on the woofer suspension. The warranty is non-transferable on second-hand sales.
